What is an EMotion really? 🤔

I was watching the episode: What EXACTLY are Emotions?! and LOVED it! 😍

What EXACTLY are Emotions?!

As explained, EMotion comes from the Latin word MOVERE, meaning “to move” and coupled with an E to designate: “out of”…

So E-Motion is Energy in motion! 🤯

Which are caused by certain impressions whether internal or external that cause a reaction in our brain or perception…

For instance crying, it’s an energy in motion being moved out of us! 😭

EMOTIONS are one of the very first things we feel when going through an experience, an autopilot reaction! 😳

SURPRISE is missing 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you’ve watched Inside Out (and if not, it is great especially if you have kids), then you know the core EMOTIONS that all other EMOTIONS fall under:
💫 SURPRISE (which wasn’t depicted in the movie 🤷🏻‍♀️)

We experience EMOTIONS as a reaction and they are not always logical, and even may not mean anything until there is a logical thought to it and hence a FEELING…

FEELINGS are EMOTIONS that are processed by thinking about them. 🤔

For instance, imagine you’re standing over the Grand Canyon on the edge of a rock! 😰
The EMOTION that comes up is most likely FEAR if you’re like me… 😜

The FEELING is that urge to fall! 😨

The processing of the EMOTION, an autopilot reaction, creates that FEELING… I literally felt the urge of falling and I wasn’t even close to the edge at Grand Canyon! 😳

Thankfully, we have our MIND and INTUITION to connect the dots allowing us to process these EMOTIONS, to determine WHY the energy is in motion within our body due to some internal or external experience, and then HEAL the root cause of it so the reaction becomes neutralized and a response is made instead. 😎

And consider, it’s never a good idea to make a permanent decision based on a temporary EMOTION – a REACTION! 🙅🏻‍♀️

Make such decisions when your EMOTIONS have been processed and neutralized resulting in a RESPONSE rather than a REACTION. 💁🏻‍♀️

Because let’s face it, we’re all human and as Victoria Klein said it best: “EMOTIONS make us humans. Denying them makes us beasts.”
